SYSTEM SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

H.   BLOCK AND INTERLOCKING SIGNALS

Where dwarf signals are used or used in conjunction with other signals, the indications are the same. In some cases, a dwarf signal may be used to represent a second or third device.


RULE ASPECT OF SIGNAL NAME INDICATION
9.1.1 CLEAR Proceed.
9.1.2 APPROACH
LIMITED
Proceed prepared to pass next signal not exceeding 60 MPH.
9.1.3 ADVANCE
APPROACH
Proceed prepared to pass next signal not exceeding 40 MPH.
9.1.4 APPROACH
DIVERGING
Proceed prepared to advance on diverging route at next signal at prescribed speed through turnout.
9.1.5 APPROACH
MEDIUM
Proceed prepared to pass next signal not exceeding 30 MPH, prepared to advance on diverging route at prescribed speed through turnout.
9.1.6 APPROACH
RESTRICTING
Proceed prepared to pass next signal at restricted speed.
9.1.7 APPROACH Proceed prepared to stop at next signal, trains exceeding 30 MPH immediately reduce to that speed.
9.1.8 DIVERGING
CLEAR
Proceed on diverging route at prescribed speed through turnout.
9.1.9 DIVERGING
APPROACH
MEDIUM
Proceed on diverging route at prescribed speed through turnout, prepared to pass next signal not exceeding 30 MPH.
9.1.10 DIVERGING
APPROACH
Proceed on diverging route at prescribed speed through turnout, prepared to stop at next signal. Trains exceeding 30 MPH immediately reduce to that speed.
9.1.11 DIVERGING
APPROACH
DIVERGING
Proceed on diverging route at prescribed speed through turnout, prepared to advance on diverging route at next signal at prescribed speed through turnout.
9.1.12 RESTRICTING Proceed at restricted speed.
9.1.13 DIVERGING
RESTRICTING
Proceed on diverging route at restricted speed.
9.1.14 STOP AND
PROCEED
Stop, then proceed at restricted speed.
9.1.15 STOP AND
PROCEED
WITH
PROTECTION
DEVICE
Stop and inspect for hazard as required by Rule 9.16.1, then proceed at restricted speed looking out for rock slide or other indicated hazard.
9.1.16 STOP Stop.
9.1.17 DISTANT
SIGNAL
CLEAR
Proceed.
If a train or engine is delayed between Distant Signal Clear and block signal, interlocking signal or switch point indicator, it must then proceed prepared to stop short of next signal or switch point indicator.
9.1.18 DISTANT
SIGNAL
APPROACH
Approach next signal prepared to stop short of next signal or switch point indicator.
